WORLD BEE DAY
WORLD BEE DAY

World Bee Day on 20th May marks a very important day for farmers all over the world.

Bees are an essential part of a farm’s ecosystem; these nifty little insects fly from plant to plant, carrying out the most important job on the farm – pollinating the crops.

Without bees at Berrymakers Farms, we wouldn’t be able to produce the beautiful berries that we deliver to your door.

Not only are bees essential to growing crops and flowers (and berries!), but evidence has shown that pollination via different species of bees can in fact lead to bigger, juicier and more evenly shaped berries.

Unfortunately, due to land use change, harmful pesticides and the rise in intensive farming, the UK bee population is under threat, which could be catastrophic to our food production later down the line. Many farmers rely on wild bees to pollinate crops, but at Berrymakers, we strive to do our bit to protect the vital bee populations that allow us to remain a fruitful farm (literally!).

We have beehives dotted across each of our three farms in Berkshire and Surrey, all are home to colonies of bees working as tirelessly as the rest of our staff to grow the best British berries around.
